I ate here for the first time today and was really impressed. The restaurant seems really small inside and is decorated nicely. Outdoor seating has misters which is awesome for Texas summers.
I had a vegetarian pad thai (they even replaced the fish sauce with something else) and it was really good. Turns out the waiter was vegan. He was nice, helpful, and knowledgeable about the dishes.
I've been to some bad hip Asian restaurants which overcharge for simply being hip. But here the prices match the dishes and I don't think it's possible to walk away unhappy. My first impression was excellent!

I had some company in town and wanted to try someplace new. (which can be tricky when you have guests bc you want it to be great!) After reading some reviews on yelp i picked Tom Toms.
Goood gooood - we tried a multitude of sushi. All extremely tasty! While my guests chugged down 2 pitchers of Kirin i tried the Blackberry Mojito (very refreshing and comes in a giant glass).
The atmosphere was modern but not snobby and our waiter was very friendly, knowledgeable, and always there to refill our glasses and keep food at the table.
We ended with 2 desserts: banana spring rolls and the fried cheese cake. both amazing!
perfect for a first date or a sexy dinner with loved ones!

I like repeating myself. I REALLY like repeating myself. Maybe this is one of the reasons that I like Tom Tom. Not only do I get to say "Meet me at Tom Tom" to my friends on the phone, but I get to repeat myself when ordering Blackberry Mojitos over and over and over again.
This deliciously refreshing, but not too sweet concoction is the perfect beginning to a night out with friends. If there is a wait for tables, put your name on the list, ask the bartender for the BM and take a seat outside.
Yes the food is good. The outside patio is really nice on a breezy evening. Sometimes the service can be iffy, but at least the bartenders are on top of their game.
Tips:
Visit on Thursdays from 4pm-7pm for dollar sushi
Other yummy food choices include:
Gyoza Dumplings
Thai Vegetable Spring Rolls
Spicy Yellowtail Sashimi
Mandarin Duck Salad
Did I mention the Blackberry Mojito?

Great location with a reasonable price.
If you go on Thursdays they have $1 sushi/sashimi from 4PM-8PM.
They have this great chocolate truffle dessert that is to die for.
The food is good.
It has a very nice set up, but still has that hip vibe.
There is plenty of outdoor seating and parking in the garage is free.
The music? Could be better, and the wait-staff is really hit or miss... more often than not it's a miss though.

On a recent lunch visit , my dining companion and I were totally ignored. We received our beverages and sat and waited and waited.
No refills to our drinks. People were seated behind us and received their food. People in front of us were seated and received their food.
We tried to get our waiter's attention, but had no luck. We did not even get the attention of the manager on duty at that time either. We paid for our drinks then, our waiter noticed he had forgotten about order and said it would take 2 minutes. too late. we left.
***3.5
We had 13 people for dinner and even though it's a small place, it didn't phase them. They didn't even get annoyed when we all attempted to crowd in the small bar area while we waited.
The food was ok. The...can't remember the name and they don't have a website...anyway, it's from Malaysia and it's spicy beef and rice--on first bite it wasn't as spicy as I'd expected, but the person whose plate I was eating off of said it got spicier toward the end.
I had the laksa which is pretty good. Again, beginning was kinda bland, almost like chicken broth with coloring, later at the bottom of the bowl the flavors came together.
Another girl got something called fragrant chicken, which was pretty much like pho ga but when she asked for hot sauce (expected sriracha) she got the chunky seedy variety.
Anyway, it was ok. Prices weren't too bad.

OK, I always give four stars - but here's an explanation for each star:
1. Good people watching location;
2. Good food, overall;
3. Great...no, I'm sorry...KICK-ASS laksa;
4. Good energy. I'm serious. "Energy."
I took off a star because, as it's been said before, the service wasn't that great - but I've only been during really busy times.
The crowd is uber-trendy, which CAN get to me sometimes. But that laksa is worth it.

My current obsession is the blackberry mojito at Tom Tom. I could literally sit on that patio all day and drink them... with the chicken satays (with that dec dipping sauce) and the edamame. The service is just OK, but the fact that you usually dont have to wait for a table outside in the West Village (even on a Friday night) makes it totally worth it.

Okay, full disclosure: I used to live above Tom Tom and they (well, the management, or whoever had their damn finger on the volume of the "boom-chick boom-chick" music that goes on until 1 in the morning) are some of the most aggravating people on the planet.
That being said... a year or 3 went by and we finally decided our hatred had passed and went there for lunch. I had a bento box and digged it. The tempura portion was yummy but greasy. DH had some sort of noodle dish (pad thai) and it was also purty good. Service was pretty sucky, and thus the 3 stars. They weren't busy but they sure did take forever to take our order, bring our food, refill our drinks, give us the check... had to waggle them down every time we needed any little thing.
If there were more people who were more concerned about customers and less concerned about how they looked "serving" things might start lookin' like 4 stars.

The food was tasty and the prices were right, but the service was very bad. We had to ask for water twice, and no one came to take our drink order for at least 10 minutes. It was not very busy either, so it is a little hard to excuse. Either poor serving or poor hosting, one of the two. Our server was nice once he came over, but never particularly attentive nor apologetic about us having been overlooked.
The dumplings were very good, the specialty rolls are tasty and I enjoyed the duck curry. I would hesitate to go back, though just because of the service.
What was once Tom Tom Noodle House is apparently now being called Tom Tom Asian Grill.
Anyway, name aside, Tom Tom offers a nice variety of pretty Asian food. The dumplings are always good as is the Laksa.
I've tried their sushi on several occasions and have never been impressed. It tastes fine, but has always been poorly constructed and falls apart when you pick it up.

I've only been to Tom Tom for lunch, but would definately try them out for dinner. Everytime I've gone, the food has been authentic, delicious, and you definately get what you pay for. I love to try the chirashi sushi at different places, and Tom Tom's is pretty good.
My favorite entree salad ever is the Tom Tom Mandarin Duck Salad. Not being a real "salady" girl, this is the only salad I crave...seriously, it is wonderful. I also think their potstickers with red jalapenos on top are some of the best around. The perfect amount of salt and spice. For something heavier, the Laksa and Pad Thai should not be missed. The sushi is pretty good, but I have had better and I don't like the flavored tea (no regular iced tea) because I think it tastes like sunscreen. The service can be either terrible or great, but it just depends on the day. Service tends to be better if you sit inside.
Note - the "to go" portions are about half the size of the restaurant portions if you get a salad or pad thai, although you pay the same. You are better off eating at the restaurant so you have a doggy bag.
By the way, it is just Tom Tom Noodle House...I am pretty sure they do not deliver.

I've been going to Tom Tom since it opened in West Village. It's a great place for a date or to bring a group of friends. Great urban atmosphere. I wouldn't go here for the sushi, tried it and wasn't too impressed. But let me tell you, the gyoza dumplings (potstickers) are by far some of the best around, next to Sushi Zushi's. Sadly, I found my favorite dish the first time i dined here....the spicy coconut chicken curry. Damn if you like a sweet spicy flavor, chicken, rice, and shitake mushrooms...this is your dish. SO good, one of the few things I actually crave. It's a great meal and will clean out your sinus and keep you warm on a cold day...lol I am not one for spicy foods but for some reason, the sweetness of the coconut milk makes it irresistible. The service is great and I've never had to wait long for a table. They have recently remodeled the patio to allow for more tables. Great place to sit and people watch. This is the only place that I have been in west village that I absolutely love.
